Our Mindful Home

Today, in the darkness of winter, our house disguised by morning fog, and the clouds threatening even more rain, my daughters and I sit around the kitchen island staring out the window at the neglected backyard. It’s too early to begin our reading assignments, besides it may be a dangerous invitation to fall back asleep as we cozy up with books and tablets. So, with paper and pencils in hand, we find ourselves planning the garden. Taking seed inventory. Remembering the warmth of summer, we remember the mistakes we made last year and think of ways we can avoid that this year. What we grew. What we grew and no one wanted to eat. What we grew and the kids ate right off the stems. What other people grew that we didn’t even think of. All these things.
